Bo Horvat Tallies Goal, Two Helpers In Victory
New York Islanders center Bo Horvat tallied three points in their victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday evening. Horvat got on the scoresheet first, with a primary assist on Maxim Tsyplakov's opening tally. Later in the period, Horvat would find the back of the net for his ninth goal of the season. Then in the third period, Horvat would tack his second helper of the evening, this time a secondary assist on Noah Dobson's strike. After tallying just three points through November 16 through December 3, Horvat has begun to heat up. Over his past seven contests, he has tallied eight points, including two multi-point games. Horvat will look to stay hot on Monday evening against the Buffalo Sabres.
Matt Murray Earns Victory In Season Debut
Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Matt Murray stopped 24 of the 27 shots he faced en route to defeating the Buffalo Sabres in his season debut. This was Murray's first start since April of 2023 as he has been sidelined due to a hip operation. The Maple leafs got out to an earl three-goal lead to provide Murray a nice cushion in his first NHL action in over a year. Earlier this season, Murray held a solid .931% SV with a 4-1-2 record in the AHL. With Anthony Stolarz (knee) on the injured reserve and set to miss four-to-six weeks, Murray could settle in as the No.2 option behind Joseph Woll. For now the two-time Stanley Cup Champion is worth a look in deeper formats.
Nathan MacKinnon Tallies Two Power-Play Assists In Victory
Colorado Avalanche center Nathan MacKinnon tallied two assists on the man advantage during Thursday's victory over the San Jose Sharks. MacKinnon's first helper of the evening was the secondary assist on Valeri Nichuskin's ninth tally of the season. Later in the final frame, MacKinnon tallied the primary assist on Mikko Rantanen's 19th goal of the season. Since the start of December, MacKinnon has tallied 16 total points (six goals, ten assists) with three of them coming on the power-play. Over his previous six games, he has been held off the scoresheet just twice and logged at least three shots on goal in each game. MacKinnon remains a high-end center in all formats and a top play in DFS in all matchups. He should be viewed as a high-upside option on Friday evening facing the Anaheim Ducks.
Kaapo Kakko Traded To Seattle
The Seattle Kraken have acquired right wing Kaapo Kakko in a trade with the New York Rangers. The team gave up defenseman Will Borgen, a 2025 third-round pick, and a 2025 sixth-round pick in the deal. Kakko, a former No. 2 pick, heads to the Western Conference after having a tough time with the Rangers. He's posted 131 points (61 goals, 70 assists) in 330 career games, including 14 points (four goals, 10 assists) in 30 appearances this season. Kakko gets a fresh start on a new team, but it remains to be seen if the move helps to unlock his full potential.
Patrik Laine Nets 11th Career Hat Trick
Montreal Canadiens winger Patrik Laine produced his 11th career hat trick in Tuesday's 6-1 win over Buffalo, netting all his goals on the power play. Laine's first goal of the night ended up as the game-winning marker. He's been impressive with his work in front of goal since making his season debut at the start of the month. Through seven appearances, Laine has lit the lamp six times while delivering one assist. The Finnish winger is averaging a point per game, but he certainly has room for improvement, as Laine has so far tallied only one even-strength point and carries a minus-five rating.
Kiefer Sherwood Celebrates First Career Hat Trick Against Avalanche
Vancouver Canucks winger Kiefer Sherwood was an unexpected hat-trick hero on Monday versus Colorado, lifting his team to a 3-1 win. The 29-year-old scored all of the game's first three goals to record his first career hat trick. Sherwood's career night included a short-handed goal. The American forward isn't known as a major threat up front, but Sherwood has been chipping in offensively throughout the campaign. He's tied for second on the team with 11 goals and boasts 17 points with 30 games played. Sherwood's physicality adds a lot to his fantasy value, as he leads the league in the category with 184. Nobody else has managed even 130 hits.
Anton Forsberg Misses Road Trip
Ottawa Senators goaltender Anton Forsberg (undisclosed) will not be with the squad as the team begins a nine-game road trip with Tuesday's visit to Seattle. Forberg was scheduled to start Saturday's matchup against Pittsburgh, but he tweaked something prior to the game and is forced to miss some time. The 32-year-old has managed two shutouts in 11 starts this season but carries a losing record. He has gone 4-6-0 with a 2.95 goals-against average and a .889 save percentage. Ottawa has called up Leevi Merilainen from the minors to work as Linus Ullmark's backup during Forsberg's absence.
Blues Pick Up Cam Fowler In Trade With Ducks
The St. Louis Blues have acquired defenseman Cam Fowler in a trade with the Anaheim Ducks. In the transaction, St. Louis sent a 2027 second-round pick and minor league defenseman Jeremie Biakabutuka to Anaheim for Fowler and a 2027 fourth-round pick. Anaheim retains 38.5 percent of Fowler's $6.5 million cap hit as part of the deal. Fowler has so far spent his entire career with the Ducks, skating in 991 games and recording 457 points (96 goals, 361 assists). However, his play has largely been ineffective this season despite Fowler seeing over 21 minutes of ice time on average. He will likely get less usage in St. Louis but should still have an important role to play, with the Blues defense missing Nick Leddy (lower body).
Evan Bouchard A Game-Time Call On Saturday
Edmonton Oilers defenseman Evan Bouchard (lower body) is considered a game-time call for Saturday's meeting with Vegas. He suffered a lower-body injury near the end of Thursday's battle against Minnesota and didn't hit the ice for practice on Friday. Bouchard finished Thursday's 7-1 win with two assists to jump to 22 points (six goals, 16 assists) for the season. In 29 games, he's fired off 70 shots and boasts 46 blocks, which ranks Bouchard second on the team. Alec Regula, who was waived by Boston earlier in the week, is expected to take Bouchard's spot in the lineup if he isn't available for Saturday's game. Darnell Nurse figures to be Bouchard's replacement on the first power-play unit.
Victor Hedman Day-To-Day With A Lower-Body Injury
Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman (lower body) is considered day-to-day. The former Norris Trophy winner was a late scratch for Thursday's matchup against Calgary. Hedman's role can not be underestimated on this Tampa Bay team. He's among the league's most productive defensemen offensively, with 25 points (four goals, 21 assists) in 26 outings, and ranks second on the team with 47 blocks. Steven Santini played instead of Hedman on Thursday, with the entire blue line putting in extra work. Janis Moser (undisclosed) was also lost during the contest, making things even more difficult for Tampa Bay in defense. Ryan McDonagh and Darren Raddysh soaked in the most action among the Lightning blue-liners, with the latter logging four minutes of power-play time.
K'Andre Miller Sustains An Upper-Body Injury
New York Rangers defenseman K'Andre Miller (upper body) had his night cut short on Wednesday versus Buffalo. He missed the third period because of an upper-body injury. Prior to his exit, Miller registered one shot, two blocks, and one hit in 13:42 of ice time. Miller hasn't yet missed any games this season, picking up six points (two goals, four assists) in 28 appearances. Additionally, he has recorded 42 shots, 40 blocks, and 55 hits. The Rangers return to action on Thursday versus Los Angeles. If Miller is out, Connor Mackey might get a chance to make his season debut. He does not have any fantasy value.
Roman Josi Suffers A Lower-Body Injury
Nashville Predators defenseman Roman Josi (lower body) did not complete Tuesday's contest against Calgary. The Predators lost their captain to a lower-body injury after he had logged 5:32 of ice time. As the team has massively struggled this season, Josi has not had a good campaign, but he's still a massive presence on the ice. In 29 outings, Josi has registered a team-high 23 points (seven goals, 16 assists) with 86 shots, 52 blocks, and 32 hits. The Predators defense also recently lost Alexandre Carrier (upper body), and Jeremy Lauzon (lower body) remains out, resulting in rookie Adam Wilsby playing a big role.
Patrik Laine Collects Two Points Versus Ducks
Montreal Canadiens winger Patrik Laine stayed hot with a two-point effort in Monday's 3-2 shootout victory against Anaheim. The Finnish forward scored a power-play goal and recorded an even-strength assist. A knee injury delayed Laine's Canadiens debut, but he was well worth the wait. Through his first four appearances for the team, the 26-year-old has averaged a point per game and boasts three goals. All of the goals have come on the power play. Laine's fantasy stock is on the rise, but a couple of good penalty-killing teams will try to slow him down next, including his former team, the Winnipeg Jets.
Samuel Ersson Back In Flyers Crease On Sunday
Philadelphia Flyers goaltender Samuel Ersson (lower body) will guard the crease in Sunday's meeting with Utah. The Swedish netminder returns to action after sitting out 11 games due to a lower-body injury. Ersson has been solid in the Flyers net this season, going 5-2-2 while allowing 2.70 goals with a .902 save percentage and one shutout. Sunday's matchup is a tricky one for Ersson, as Utah is in the bottom tier of the league in terms of goal-scoring, but the team has exploded for 22 goals across its last five road games.
Linus Ullmark Stands Tall In Saturday's Victory
Ottawa Senators goaltender Linus Ullmark stopped 37 of the 38 shots he faced en route to defeating the Nashville Predators on Saturday evening. The Predators had the advantage in the shot total, but Ullmark kept the Senators in the game. His lone mistake came late in the final period off a wrist shot by Fedor Svechkov. Ullmark has allowed just one goal or less in his past two starts and is now carrying a two-game win streak. This is a nice bounce-back, as Ullmark allowed at least three goals in each of his previous six outings before this win streak. Overall, the 31-year-old has a 2.81 GAA, .898% SV, and a 7-7-1 record. Fantasy managers should expect Anton Forsberg to get the starting nod against the New York Islanders this evening.
Charlie Lindgren Earns Victory On Friday
Washington Capitals goaltender Charlie Lindgren stopped 20 of the 21 shots he faced en route to defeating the Toronto Maple Leafs. Lindgren's lone blemish came in the second frame when John Tavares beat him on his backhand. This was also a nice bounce-back showing for the 30-year-old, as he has allowed nine goals over his past two starts combined. This was only the second time this season that Lindgren allowed just one goal or fewer. Since the start of November, Lindgren has held a .900% SV with a modest 2.91 GAA. Throughout the season, Lindgren and Logan Thompson have shared the Washington crease. However, given that Thompson boasts a 10-1 record, fantasy managers should continue to expect him to see the slight majority of starts.
Ryan O'Reilly Out Week-To-Week
Nashville Predators center Ryan O'Reilly (lower body) has been labeled as week-to-week. He missed his first game of the season Thursday versus Montreal, and unfortunately, O'Reilly isn't expected to make a quick return. The veteran forward has bagged 14 points (five goals, nine assists) in 26 outings this season, putting him third in scoring on the team. Steven Stamkos took on first-line center duties on Thursday, with Fedor Svechkov slotting into the second line. Zachary L'Heureux also saw time in the top six as the struggling Predators were handed another defeat on Thursday.
Trevor Zegras Suffers A Lower-Body Injury
Anaheim Ducks forward Trevor Zegras suffered a lower-body injury in Wednesday's 4-1 loss to Vegas. He was hurt early in the second period and had to be helped off the ice. Zegras might now face a third lengthy absence because of an injury in just over a year. He lost 31 games last season to a broken ankle and a groin injury. The 23-year-old has recorded 10 points (four goals, six assists) in 24 outings this campaign. Anaheim was already without Leo Carlsson (upper body) on Wednesday, so the top-six group has recently taken a couple of rough blows. The injuries might give Cutter Gauthier a chance to nail down a spot on a scoring line.
Joel Eriksson Ek Suffers Injury In Tuesday's Win
Minnesota Wild center Joel Eriksson Ek (undisclosed) was hurt in Tuesday's 3-2 overtime win against Vancouver. He exited the game during the overtime period. Eriksson Ek has already missed three games this season because of health issues. The Swedish centerman was on a three-game point streak prior to Tuesday's action and has amassed 13 points (five goals, eight assists) in 22 outings across the campaign. Marco Rossi is in line to regain his top-line job if Eriksson Ek can't play on Friday versus Anaheim. Marcus Foligno is looking at a promotion into the top six.
Patrik Laine Makes Canadiens Debut Tuesday
Montreal Canadiens winger Patrik Laine (knee) will make his first appearance of the season on Tuesday against the Islanders. Laine's debut for the Canadiens has been delayed because of a knee injury he sustained during preseason play. The Finnish forward will start life in Montreal as a member of the second line, skating with Kirby Dach and Juraj Slafkovsky. Considering he hasn't played at all this season and was limited to only 18 outings last term, Laine is somewhat of an unknown quantity. But he's previously had plenty of success in the league, scoring 204 goals and bagging 388 points in 480 career games.
